OCONTO FALLS: The sawmill of the Union Manufacturing Co., which has been undergoing repairs and improvements under direction of Daniel Krause for some months, commenced the season’s operations this week. The mill is now in fine working order, and the output will surpass that of any previous year both as to quantity and quality.

LENA: Arthur Thibideau of Coleman was a Lena visitor Sunday.

OCONTO FALLS: The office of Highway Commissioner Peetz has been moved upstairs into the J.S. Millen building on Main Street, and Irving Breakstone also is occupying a suite of rooms in the Millen building.

OCONTO FALLS: The congregation of the First Methodist Episcopal church has purchased George Bonner’s residence building, corner of Union Street and Washington Avenue, and hereafter it will be the residence for pastors of the church.

MOUNTAIN: Harry Predith of Mountain was appointed as the third motorcycle policeman to serve in Oconto County during the coming season at a meeting of the county highway committee at the courthouse last Thursday and has taken charge of his duties.

OCONTO COUNTY: Strict enforcement of the commercial fishing laws on Lake Michigan will be in force as a result of the vacating of an injunction April 15 by Judge Edward Voigt, Manitowoc, which was brought against the conservation commission last winter and which prohibited the commission from enforcing the laws relating to the use of mesh gill nets in Lake Michigan.

SPRUCE: Funeral services were held for Roy Kamke, 39, who died of an apparent heart attack.

LENA: Mrs. Joseph Sounier was hospitalized following severe burns suffered from a flash fire in her home.

OCONTO FALLS: David Trudell, fireman, USN, is serving aboard the submarine USS Dioden in San Diego.

OCONTO FALLS: Virgina Kusch and Carol VanArk achieved top honors for Oconto Falls High School Class of 1960.

OCONTO: Mrs. Guy Williams, 69, was hospitalized after receiving shoulder injuries in an automobile accident.

KRAKOW: Sue Ann Terry and Tom Winter were united in marriage at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church.

OCONTO FALLS: Leslie Lyle Vorphal has been presented the Bronze Star with the Combat V for heroism in Vietnam. He has also been awarded the Purple Heart.

LENA: A 54-year-old man was charged with causing great bodily harm with negligent use of a firearm. He fired an air rifle from a window in his home, striking a 15-year-old girl in the thigh.

LENA: Army Private First Class Gerald D. Marshall received the Air Medal and Purple Heart near Tay Ninh, Vietnam.

GILLETT: Annette Peholke and Douglas Yanke were united in marriage.

OCONTO FALLS: Mr. William Cournoyer celebrated his 100th birthday.

TOWNSEND: 93-year-old Earl Bennett visited his cousins Norma Exford and her sister Bernice Sieloff after attending his 70th reunion at UW-Madison.

STILES: Christopher A. Bates, 19, died as the result of injuries suffered in a traffic accident involving his vehicle, a fuel oil tanker truck and another vehicle.

OCONTO: Alfred and Myra Bozile celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

MARINETTE: Department officials reported that the massive fish kill on the Peshtigo River in late April was caused by a concentration of spawning fish, low water levels, high temperatures and a buildup of natural nitrogen in the water.

GILLETT: After five years of preparation, the Gillett ATV park located in the industrial park will open with the Badger State Quad Association Championship Series ATV races.

OCONTO FALLS: The Oconto Falls City Council opted to save the cost of a $13,000 air exchange system for the fire department and approved the garage ventilation system by of Energy Control and Design instead.

SURING: Two Suring High School students, junior Ethan School and senior Joe Firgens, are being called heroes after reacting quickly to a vehicle accident that occurred May 10. The students were filming a video for a school project when the accident occurred, and both assisted in removing an unconscious Colten Jenson, also a senior, from his vehicle and carrying him to safety before the vehicle exploded.
