Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School’s Reese Rogowski won four individual events to help the girls track and field team to a second-place finish at the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large Division Championships on May 14 in Keshena.

Rogowski earned first in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes and the long jump. She won the 100 in 12.3 seconds and the 200 in 25.78 seconds. Rogowski’s time of 58.07 seconds won the 400 by over four seconds, and her top leap of 18 feet, 0.5 inches was the best by more than 2 feet.

“It means a lot. I had high expectations for myself, and I want to continue to get better as the season progresses,” said Rogowski on what the four conference titles mean to her.

Rogowski’s big day helped the girls team rack up 117½ total points, only behind Manawa’s 122½. Bonduel came in seventh with 51 points, and Menominee Indian was ninth with 17 points.

On the boys side, Witt-Birn took eighth with 53 points. Bonduel placed ninth with 48 points, and Menominee Indian scored 10 points to take 10th.

Along with Rogowski’s four top finishes, Jalynn Horacek also won an event for the Witt-Birn girls. She had a leap of 33-11 to win the triple jump.

The Witt-Birn boys team was led by Simon Schairer, who was part of two first-place finishes. Schairer won the 400 dash in 52.19 seconds and teamed up with Alex Centeno, Conner Groshek and Craig Wendel for first in the 4x400 relay (3:39.59).

Schairer also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 41-11½.

“My strong conference finishes mean to me that all the practicing has paid off and that I am still improving as the season goes on to hopefully finish the track season out well,” said Schairer.

Placing second individually for the Chargers was Faith Resch in the 200 (27.25) and Horacek in the 100 hurdles (17.8).

Horacek, Resch, Allison Linke and Kit Stewart teamed up for a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay (54.80).

Individually, Linke placed third in the 300 hurdles (52.34), while Resch was third in the high jump (4-8).

The Bonduel girls team was led by a first-place finish from the 4x100 relay team of Brenna Hertzfeldt, Ava Pleshek, Anna Beaumier and Meghan Wondra. The quartet put up a time of 54.46 seconds.

Individually, Pleshek was second in the 100 hurdles (17.79), while Hertzfeldt was second in the shot put (37-5½). Hertzfeldt placed third in the discus (101-9).

“It’s honestly a confidence booster,” said Hertzfeldt. “Some meets have not gone as well as I would have liked, so to finish the events at conference like I did is definitely reassuring. Also, I’m so proud of our 4x1 team to push it all the way to the end to secure first place.”

Gaven Vance led the Bonduel boys with second-place finishes in the long jump (20-2) and 200 dash (23.43).

“I was pretty happy with how I finished overall, especially with long jump,” said Vance. “I’m hoping for a even better performance in regionals and sectionals later on this month.

“This also means a lot. With how my last couple of meets have gone, the conference meet helped to boost my overall confidence.”

Karter Schroeder claimed second in the high jump (5-10). Jon Sell secured third in the discus (130-3) and shot put (42-5½).

Menominee Indian’s top finishes were both fourth place.

Barron Waupoose turned in a time of 24.41 seconds to claim fourth in the boys 200 dash. Emma Komanekin, Alezaha King, Cali Shawano and Alexis Zhuckkahosee teamed up for fourth in the girls 4x200 relay (2:03.55).
