Witt-Birn girls 2nd, boys 3rd at track and field open
The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School track and field teams turned in top-three finishes at the Weyauwega-Fremont Open May 6 in Weyauwega.
The Witt-Birn girls scored 131 points to place second behind only Weyauwega-Fremont (155). The Witt-Birn boys tallied 103 points, trailing Weyauwega-Fremont (128.5) and Shiocton (107).
Gresham/Bowler, Tigerton and Marion also competed in the open.
Simon Schairer placed first in the triple jump with a top leap of 41 feet, 5.5 inches. He also won the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.9 seconds and claimed the top time in the 800 (2:14.85).
Schairer was also a part of the first-place finishing 4x400 relay team (4:02.99). Tommy Bruski, Craig Wendel and Trevor Schmidt filled out the relay team.
Bruski was the boys team's other top finishes, claiming first in the 1,600 (5:02.76).
Leading the Witt-Birn girls team was Reese Rogowski, who won the 100 (13.7), 200 (26.89) and 400 (1:00.84).
Jalynn Horacek had the girls’ other top finish in the 100 hurdles, posting a time of 19.02.
The Gresham/Bowler boys placed fourth with 46 points, while the girls came in fifth with 39 points.
Emmitt Kietlinkski had the boys co-op's top finish, placing first in the high jump (5-8). Hazel Tepiew took second in the shot put (26-09.75) to lead the girls co-op.
The Tigerton girls placed seventh with 29 points. Mary Kreklow took second in the 1,600 (8:10.08) for the team's best individual finish.
The Marion girls scored four points on the day, with Hailye Larson placed third in the triple jump (24-04) for the team's best finish.
