Witt-Birn boys golf team claims first CWC title

Chargers’ Resch earns CWC Player of Year honor

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School boys golf team made history on May 25, winning their first Central Wisconsin Conference championship after placing first at the final CWC meet at Foxfire Golf Club in Waupaca.

“I am very proud of this team,” said Witt-Birn coach Chris Bartletti. “They set this as a goal and have worked hard, not only this season, but throughout their entire high school career.”

Witt-Birn’s Ian Resch posted an 18-hole round of 77 to lead all individual golfers on the day and earn himself the CWC Player of the Year honor.

Calvin Scheurer fired a round of 81 to place third as an individual at the meet and take third for the full season. He also made the first team all-conference.

Maverick Beran shot an 82, while Brian Nelson carded an 85. Both golfers made the CWC second team.

Nolan Fraaza posted a round of 88 to cap a strong team effort for the Chargers. The team score of 325 was Witt-Birn’s lowest mark of the season so far.

Manawa posted a team score of 364 to place third on the day, but claimed second in the final conference standings. Wisconsin Valley Lutheran (347) took second on the day and third for the season.

Bonduel (378) placed fourth on the day and for the season.

Cooper Uelmen led the Bears with a round of 86. He made the second team all-conference.

Reed Luepke shot a round of 93, while Jake Dreyer posted a 94. Mason Moore (105) and Sam Wolf (129) rounded out Bonduel’s five-golfer lineup.

Marion earned a team score of 451 to place ninth on the day. The Mustangs took eighth in the final standings.

Isaiah Gueths shot a 99 to lead Marion, while Ellen Radies shot a 109 and Sam Gueths a 115. Kasey Roethle (128) and Quinn Tolan (132) rounded out the team.

Menominee Indian/Gresham posted a team score of 473 to take 10th on the day. The co-op was also 10th in the final standings.

Jake Hoffman (108) and Anni Petri (110) were the co-op’s top golfers on the day. Saswaen Shawanokasic (124), Andrew Galland (131) and Jack Haffner (137) filled out the team.
