Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School senior McKenna Metropulos qualified for state in two swimming events after competing in the Division 2 Rhinelander Sectional on Saturday.

The sectional was combined with the Medford Sectional before final results were finalized.

Metropulos ended up with third-place finishers in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races. She posted a time of 1 minute, 59.98 seconds in the 200 and had a mark of 54.39 seconds in the 100.

“Making state is always my overall goal in the season, and even though this was a weird season with everything that has been going on, it still is just as meaningful as it had been last year,” said Metropulos, who made it to state in the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle as a junior.

The Witt-Birn team earned 102 points and placed ninth out of 12 teams.

The Chargers only other individual top-10 finish came from Annika Resch, who posted a time of 2:11 to finish eighth in the 200 freestyle.

Resch also placed 13th in the 100 freestyle (58.64). Jessica Storlie came in 15th in the 500 freestyle (6:28.5).

Witt-Birn’s 200 freestyle relay team placed seventh in 1:50.36. The team’s 400 freestyle relay came in ninth in 4:06.77.

Metropulos will take part in the Division 2 State Girls Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at the Waukesha South Natatorium.

She enters state with the third-best time in the 100 and the sixth-fastest time in the 200.

“I’m hoping to come out of state with new PR times in both events and making podium,” said Metropulos.
