Westphal wins to cement Mighty 4 title

Whitman, Teske, Frank, VanStraten also win track titles

The Shawano Speedway racing season concluded with Championship Night on Sept. 2, with Tanner Westphal, Travis VanStraten, Gunner Frank, Jeffery Teske and Johnny Whitman winning track titles.

Westphal, Kyle Frederick, Troy Springborn, Jake Carpenter and Mike Mullen won feature races on the final night.

Westphal won the Mighty 4 feature race to seal up a title in the division. He moved up five spots during the race to earn the top finish.

Dalton Nelson, Chad Halterman, Clint Malueg and Austin Pingel rounded out the top five in the feature race. Westphal won the title by eight points over Nelson. Brad Wedde took third. Calvin Stueck finished fourth, while Alexis Michonski was fifth overall.

VanStraten won the IMCA Stock Car class by 30 points, the largest margin for any champion. He moved up seven spots to finish second in the final feature race.

Frederick moved past four drivers to take first in the feature. Brekken Kleinschmidt, Vern Stedjee and Dan Michonski capped the top five.

Frederick finished second in the final standings, while Dylan Stedjee was third. Dan Michonski took fourth, and Vern Stedjee was fifth.

Frank won the Late Model class by 14 points. He was not part of the field on Championship Night.

Springborn started on the front row of the feature and went on to finish first. Ron Berna claimed second, while Brett Swedberg was third. Derek Janke and Andy Karl filled out the top five.

Karl landed second in the final standings, with Berna in third. Joel Bennett took fourth, while Todd Frank was fifth.

Teske finished 11 points higher than any other driver in the IMCA Sport Mod division. He moved up seven spots and placed fifth in the final feature race.

Carpenter moved past 10 cars to earn to top finish in the feature race. Logan Fleischman was second, JJ Vanderloop third and Mason Woods fourth.

Fleischman also took second in the final standings. Jerry Vanderloop grabbed third. Tyler Sobiesczyk and Travis Rhoades rounded out the top five.

Whitman won the IMCA Modified division in what was the tightest finish of the speedway’s five classes. He scored 487 points, edging Konnor Wilinski at 483 points. Whitman placed third in the final feature race, moving past 12 cars to do so.

Mullen started the race in third and went on to win the feature, while Jayden Schmidt took second. Jason Czarapata and Wilinski rounded out the top five.

Jordan Bartz came in third in the final standings. Jerry Wilinski took fourth, while Marcus Yarie was fifth.
