Waupaca tops Hortonville in Dairyland title game

The Waupaca Lakemen won the Dairyland League championship after defeating Hortonville 3-0 on Aug. 27 in Waupaca.

Waupaca outhit Hortonville 5-2 in the contest, scoring once in the fourth and twice in the eighth to prevail.

Walker Smith gave Waupaca the lead in the fourth with a single, scoring Jake Pankratz. Luke Behm clubbed a two-run home run in the eighth, plating Eric Brehmer ahead of him.

Waupaca starting pitcher Cam Seidl stifled Hortonville’s bats, striking out 14 batters over eight innings. Jack Eagan struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.

Connor Roesler and Ty Dreier had Hortonville’s lone hits. Will Salaman drew a walk.

Chris Atwood took the loss on the mound after pitching five innings.
