Veterans plan Memorial Day honors across Oconto County

Oconto County Veteran Service Organizations will be conducting the below Memorial Day activities in the communities indicated. All events are on Memorial Day (May 29) unless listed otherwise.

• Abrams: Legion Post 523 will hold Memorial Day ceremonies at four area cemeteries — Stiles 9 a.m., Brookside 9:45 a.m., Little Suamico 10:30 a.m., Sobieski 11:15 a.m..

• Gillett: Legion Post 300 will hold Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. Potluck for members and guests to follow at Gun Club.

• Lena: Legion Post 342 plans a parade at 10 a.m. followed by Memorial Day ceremonies at St. Charles and Pine Hill cemeteries.

• Mountain: Parade at noon May 28, starting from Schoolhouse Bar, 14007 State Highway 32.

• Oconto Falls: Legion Post 302 will hold a Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery. They will then hold a Monument Brick Dedication at Oconto Falls Area Veterans Monument for all veterans and families at 11 a.m. There will also be a parade that begins at 12:30 p.m. All veterans are welcome to ride on the veterans float.

• Oconto: Veterans will have a parade departing City Hall at 10:30 to Evergreen Cemetery where they will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony. The first Oconto County Veterans Memorial Corporation family picnic follows from noon to 5 p.m. at the Copperfest/Legion Park at Arbutus and Quincy, with food and beverages for sale, games for kids, and live music.

• Suring: Legion Post 283 will conduct Memorial Day honors at local cemeteries at the times listed — Breed 9 a.m., St. Michael’s 9:30 a.m., St. John’s (Hayes) 10 a.m., Pleasant Hill 10:30 a.m., Suring Nursing Home 11 a.m., Trinity 11:30 a.m., Hickory 12:45 p.m.
