Toddler drowns in Oconto River

A 2-year-old boy drowned Saturday evening in the Oconto River in the town of Stiles.

According to a news release from Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban, the Emergency Dispatch Center received a 911 call at 7:34 p.m. that the child was missing in a wooded area near the river. Sheriff’s deputies were joined by members of the Oconto Falls Fire and Rescue Department in searching for the missing child.

The little boy was found in the river about 8:30 p.m., and life-saving measures began immediately, Skarban said.

He was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital, where he passed away.

Skarban said the Sheriff’s Office and Brown County Medical Examiner are conducting an ongoing investigation.
