Coron having big season for Oshkosh

The UW-Oshkosh women’s volleyball team is enjoying a strong season on the court, and Oconto Falls High School graduate Shelby Coron is playing a big role for the Titans.

Through the team’s first 30 matches, in which the team went 21-9, Coron ranks third on the team with 187 kills.

The junior also has accumulated 108 digs and 71 total blocks (second most on the team).

Coron and the Titans will open the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship with a match against UW-River Falls on Tuesday.

Panther grads help Stout to second

Oconto Falls graduates Michael Friedman and Mike Fifield each placed in the top 30 to help UW-Stout place second at the WIAC Cross-Country Championships at Cole Acres Golf Course in Cuba City on Saturday.

Friedman, a senior, came in seventh with a time of 26 minutes, 30.1 seconds. Fifield, also a senior, took 25th in 27:21.2.

Friedman’s finish earned him first team all-conference honors. He was also selected to the all-sportsmanship team.

Fifield, Friedman and the rest of the UW-Stout runners will gear up for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional, which will be held Nov. 16 in Winneconne.
