The Tigerton High School girls basketball team enters the winter season under the direction of a new coach and needing some underclassmen to step up.

Tigerton is coming off an 8-15 season last winter, which included a 3-7 mark in the Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division under coach Tanya Hintz.

Shawn Much is the new coach and he will have to replace a couple players that graduated from that team, but he’s excited to see what the team can do after improving down the stretch last year.

“The work we put in started paying off as the season progressed resulting in us being more competitive and having some pretty exciting games,” said Much.

The Tigers graduated one all-conference player, but get a pair back in seniors Savannah Swartz (forward) and Adrienne Brady (guard). Swartz made the second team all-conference last season, while Brady was an honorable mention.

Swartz and Brady led the team in several statistics a season ago and were the top-two scorers.

Senior Ladia Block (guard) and junior Elizabeth Robbins (guard) also are back after starting last year for Tigerton.

The only other players on the roster with significant varsity experience are juniors Bethany Jobe (forward) and Mary Kreklow (guard) and sophomore Abby Swartz (forward).

Senior Taryn Graham and freshmen Samantha Suehring, Elizabeth Stueck and Jessalyn Zimdars are some new players to the varsity scene that could carve out roles and make impacts for the Tigers.

“Inevitably, we will have to count on our younger, less experienced players at times to step up and contribute when they ideally may not be ready,” said Much. “I look for everyone to come in with the same desire to stick together and work hard learning the game no matter what the outcome each week.”
