WITTENBERG — A Texas driver who said “see ya” before fleeing from Shawano County authorities Monday got stuck on a logging road and was arrested after a short pursuit, according to the criminal complaint.

Jay R. Selle, 58, of Zavalla, Texas, was spotted by a deputy speeding and running a stop sign in Wittenberg shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, according to the complaint.

The deputy who pulled Selle over noticed that Selle’s speech was slurred and could smell alcohol coming from the vehicle, according to the complaint.

Selle claimed he had had two beers about an hour ago.

When the deputy told Selle he wanted to perform a field sobriety test, Selle first said, “OK,” then put the vehicle in gear and said “see ya” before driving off.

The deputy pursued the vehicle as Selle drove south on County Road M and then turned onto a logging road where his vehicle spun sideways and ran into the deeper snow in the woods and got stuck.

Selle was charged with a felony count of attempting to flee or elude an officer. He could face a maximum 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.

He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting an officer and cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated.

Selle was ordered held on a $2,500 cash bond set by Judge James Habeck. He is scheduled for an adjourned initial appearance on Feb. 3.
