Susan J. Golding
Susan Jean (Benka) Golding, 57, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly in her home on June 23, 2024.
Sue was born on June 21, 1967, to parents Erwin and Jean (Collins) Benka, in Hartford.
Sue was the dearest sister of Maureen (Bud) McCormick and Kathyrn (Christian) Benedict; proud aunt of Aidan (Raychel), Evan (Katie), Aileen, Liam, Ian, Eoin McCormick, Bailey and Delaney Benedict.
Sue worked for the Menominee County Health and Human Services Division from 1992 until 2019. She specialized in fraud investigations, social work and was a division supervisor for both the children’s protection unit and the juvenile justice unit. Her other careers included working for Lakland Care and the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin as a long-term care case manager.
Susan also was the proud sole owner of Gold Investigations and worked as a private investigator. In her extra time, Sue also helped out at Walgreens and Family Video.
Sue loved being at BSRU cabin, which she called her “happy place.” While there, she enjoyed fireside chats under starry nights, going to Newton Lake and “Shaffer’s” chicken.
She loved to listen to the blues while drinking her favorite blush wine. Sue cherished her late-night phone calls, all things purple and is known for her loud hearty laughs. She loved spending time with her nieces, nephews and especially her dog, Gemma.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Jean Benka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Kilian Catholic Church (262 W. State St., Hartford, WI 53027) or the Shawano County Humane Society (1290 Jaycee Court, Shawano, WI 54166) are much appreciated.
A memorial Mass for Susan will take place on Aug. 12, 2024, at St. Kilian Catholic Church. The rosary and chaplet of divine mercy will take place at 1:30 p.m. prior to visitation. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until the start of Mass at 3 p.m. The Rev. Britto Suresh is officiating. Burial will immediately follow Mass at St. Kilian Catholic Cemetery. Celebration of life is planned at the Bank Shot following the burial.
“Auntie Heimer” will be greatly missed by all of her nieces and nephews, her sisters, relatives, colleagues and friends. Her smile will be etched in our hearts forever.
