Suring cross-country girls team looks to keep improving
Heading into its third year of varsity action, the Suring High School girls cross-country team hopes to keep building.
The team can afford to take a two-year approach into the season as none of the seven runners that figure to make up the team are seniors.
Leading the team will be sophomore Olivia Noack, who enjoyed a strong freshman campaign on the trails.
Noack led the team at its sectional meet with a top-20 finish, and came in fifth at the Marinette and Oconto Conference Meet.
“My individual goal for this upcoming season would be to overcome any setbacks that I may have. I want to become a stronger runner and pursue a more positive mindset,” said Noack, who also wants to be a positive influence for the rest of the team.
Also back for coach Amanda Seibert are juniors Madison Vandevelde, Carley Geniesse and Chantelle VandenElzen and sophomore Hailey Thomson, who came in 14th at the M&O Meet.
Georgia Gerndt and Samantha Seibert are freshmen runners that could figure into the lineup for the Eagles this fall.
While trying to predict how the season might pan out is nearly impossible because of the uncertainty of how the coronavirus pandemic might impact the season, coach Seibert has some different goals for the fall.
“Our team will train together, work hard together, laugh together, and hopefully compete together. If we are able to continue to enjoy our sport, and the camaraderie that it builds, I will feel we have achieved success,” she said.
Seibert said the boys team did not have any runners on the roster as of Friday.
