Six Shawano wrestlers advance to sectionals

Six members of the Shawano boys wrestling team will advance to sectional action following a successful round of regional wrestling Feb. 10 at Green Bay Preble.

Moving on for the Hawks will be Dane Hodkiewicz, Owen Montour, Drake Herm, Carsen Herm, Drew Chelberg and Connor Chelberg.

Drake Herm earned his 100th win during his first-round win. He won his bracket in quick fashion with two quick pins.

“Drake has been wrestling really well during the second half of the season,” coach Mike Homan said. “We are excited to see him wrestle next weekend at sectionals.”

Carsen Herm also placed first and finished with two pins.

“Carsen wrestled a great tournament today and will look to finish well next weekend at the sectional tournament,” Homan said.

Hodkiewicz and Connor Chelberg each placed third.

“Dane wrestled tough matches and earned his third-place finish. He continues to do great things on the mat,” Homan said. “Connor wrestled well during the day and earned a tech fall in his third-place match.”

Owen Montour and Drew Chelberg each placed fourth.

“All six of the wrestlers will look to place in the top 2two next weekend to move onto the state tournament,” Homan said.

Finishing in fifth place were Dylan Gartner, Kody Popelka, Mason Theis and Brayen Biovin. Taking sixth were Alex Montour, Austin Stickney and Marcus Cicero,

The team as a whole placed fourth.

The Shawano girls team will also compete at sectionals next weekend with the first-place finishers moving on the state tournament.
