Shawano girls soccer team ready to build under new coach
The Shawano Community High School girls soccer team is eager to get back on the field and begin building under a new coaching staff.
Emily Stepanek is the team’s new coach. She and assistant coach Walter Moesch are both entering their first seasons as coaches at Shawano.
“With last year’s season being cancelled due to Covid, the girls are excited to get back out on the field and looking forward to being able to compete again,” said Stepanek. “With a new season, team and coaching staff, they are all thrilled to have the opportunity to rebuild and bring their game to the next level.”
The coaches have a number of upperclassmen to turn to guide the team this season and in the Bay Conference.
Senior Isabel Colon is one of those upperclassmen back. She’ll serve as a defender for the Hawks this spring.
Anne Carrier, Faith Lammers, Abigail Rabideau, Kaylee Rindt, Kloie Boyles and Rylie Anderson are all juniors the team will look to.
Lammers and Boyles will serve as defenders, with Lammers likely to spend the most time as the goaltender.
Carrier, Rabideau and Anderson are all midfielders, while Rindt is a forward.
Stepanek said the rest of the lineup and roster could be filled out by just about anyone in the program this spring. “With it being a new year, a new team and a new coaching staff, we believe that everyone has an important role and is going to make a huge difference in this team, and we’re looking forward to seeing what this season brings.”
“We have been focusing on the development of skills in a positive environment and we also let them know the lingo that we speak on the field so when we tell things to them they’ll be able to understand what we mean,” said Lammers on how the upperclassmen have been helping out the younger players. “We also keep assuring them that gaining skills is the most important thing in a season like ours because of having the off year last year and tell them not to be too hard on themselves because we’ll all improve if we put the work in.”
