Shawano boys, girls win home track invitational

The Shawano Community High School boys and girls track teams each cruised to first-place finishes at the Ryan Jozwiak Memorial Track Invitational on May 11 in Shawano.

The Shawano boys racked up 240 points, well ahead of second-place finishing Seymour (146.5). The Shawano girls accumulated 201.5 points, with Antigo (140.5) in second.

The Bonduel girls scored 136.5 points to place third, while the boys came in fourth with 94 points. Menominee Indian also competed at the invitational, with the girls team scoring 54 points and placing fifth, and the boys taking sixth after scoring nine points.

The Shawano boys team tallied 12 first-place finishes on the night, while the girls team had 11.

Shawano's Gage Timm won the boys triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 0.5 inches, while also having the top mark in the long jump (19-7). He teamed up with Reef Anthony, Drake Herm and Elliott Lowney for a first-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay, which had a time of 1 minute, 37.94 seconds.

Lowney won the 100 (11.21) and high jump (5-8), while Jackson Smits was the top finisher in the shot put (42-11.25) and discus (131-2). Anthony was the top pole vaulter, with a mark of 13-0.

Other top finishes for the Shawano boys were Carter Schmidt winning the 400 (57.13), Connor Chelberg claiming the 800 (2:14.88), Ethan Onesti topping the field in the 1,600 (5:04.8) and Will Chelberg taking first in the 3,200 (11:02.63).

Isabel Roloff, Odessa Arce and Aubree Zastrow all had two first-place finishes as individuals to lead the Shawano girls. Roloff won the pole vault (9-6) and 100 (12.66), while Arce had the best times in the 800 (2:31.38) and 1,600 (5:32.39). Zastrow won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles with times of 18.38 and 53.81, respectively.

Brooke Theis, Grace Beyer, Grace Chelberg and Lydia Beyer teamed up for a top finish in the 4x400 relay (4:26.81).

Theis also won the 400 (1:06.76), while Chelberg was first in the high jump (4-8). Morgan Weinig had the top discus mark (107-4), while Lily Guenther was the best 3,200 runner (12:38.16).

Ashlyn Kurey was a part of both of the Bonduel girls top finishes. She won the triple jump (31-10.75) and was on the first-place finishing 4x800 relay. Kara Troxel, Kendra Troxel and Breanna Schnell filled out the relay, which posted a time of 10:29.02.

The Bonduel boys did not take first in any events. Kaden Bergsbaken (300 hurdles), Jon Sell (discus), Karter Schroeder (high jump) and Gavin Vance (long jump) all had second-place finishes as individuals.

Guadalupe Corn had the only first-place finish for Menominee Indian, winning the girls shot put (37-3.5). The boys top finish was Gregory Turney coming in fourth in the 100.
