Shawano boys and girls track and field teams each take 1st at home quad

Both teams earn 10 first-place finishes

The Shawano Community High School boys and girls track and field teams each placed first at a Bay Conference Quad April 27 in Shawano.

The boys team accumulated 110.5 points, well ahead of Seymour (68.5), Xavier (65) and Green Bay West (12). The Shawano girls finished with 110 points, with Xavier (68), Seymour (42) and Green Bay West (40) rounding out the quad.

"We had a very strong opening meet at home," said Shawano coach Erin Cornelius. "Everyone competed to their ability and we saw many PRs (personal records) in this meet. With this being our first meet, we were very excited to see strong finishes by athletes and first place for both the men and women."

The boys team racked up 10 first-place finishes. Elliott Lowney won the 100- and 400-meter dashes with times of 11.38 and 51.77 seconds, respectively, while also having the top mark in the high jump (5 feet, 7 inches).

Lowney claimed second in the triple jump (41-2.5), behind teammate Gage Timm (43-2.5). Timm also won the long jump (19-9.5) and was third in the high jump (5-4).

Connor Chelberg won the 800 (2:19.74), Will Chelberg was the top finisher in the 1,600 (5:05.08) and 3,200 (11:18.79), Jackson Smits claimed first in discus (111-8) and Reef Anthony had the top pole vault mark (9-0) for the Shawano boys other first-place finishes.

The Shawano girls also had 10 first-place finishes.

Isabel Roloff won the 100 (12.89) and pole vault (7-6), while Aubree Zastrow was the top finisher in the 100 and 300 hurdles with times of 18.34 and 53.02, respectively.

Brooke Theis claimed the top time in the 400 (1:06.83), while Grace Beyer won the 800 (2:34.2). Onna Hermann finished with the top triple jump (28-10.5) and Morgan Weinig had the top shot put throw (34-0.5).

The Shawano girls other two top finishes came from relay teams. Lydia Beyer, Grace Beyer, Grace Chelberg and Theis teamed up for first in the 4x400 relay (4:36.2), while both Beyers, Grace Chelberg and Odessa Arce took first in the 4x800 relay (10:18.42).

Earning second-place finishes on the boys side for Shawano were Ethan Onesti in the 1,600 (5:09.73) and 3,200 (11:30.49), Brandon Reed in the 110 and 300 hurdles (19.32 and 46.31, respectively), Smits in the shot put (38-1) and Drake Herm in the pole vault (8-0).

Third-place individual finishes were earned by Wyatt Brandt in the 800 (2:24.73), Andon Chelberg in the 1,600 (5:21.36) and Sean Larson in the 110 and 300 hurdles (19.33 and 47.4, respectively). Brandt, Jaymin Boivin, Aydon Chelberg and Connor Chelberg teamed up for third in the 4x400 relay (4:15.53).

The girls second-place finishers included Roloff in the 200 (28.05), Hermann in the 400 (1:12.26), Lydia Beyer in the 800 (2:43.48), Lily Guenther in the 1,600 (5:45.81), Arce in the 3,200 (12:31.26), Weinig in the discus (92-6), Grace Chelberg in the high jump (4-6) and Zastrow in the long jump (15-1.5).

Shawano girls placing third included Theis in the 100 (14.28), Rachel Reed in the 200 (29.99), Timea Kovacs in the 800 (2:59.34), Grace Chelberg in the 1,600 (5:50.3) and Guenther in the 3,200 (12:40.82).
