Shawano boys 8th, Oconto Falls 11th at wrestling invitational

Area girls wrestlers shine in Wausau

Area wrestling teams and individuals turned in strong results across the state on Jan. 21.

Shawano and Oconto Falls sent boys teams to Sheboygan for the Herb Tyler Invitational. The Hawks took eighth place, while Oconto Falls was 11th.

Bonduel, Pulaski, Suring/Gillett and Oconto Falls all had girls place at the Wisconsin Challenge Series in Wausau.

Shawano

The Shawano boys accumulated 95 points to earn its eighth-place finish at the Herb Tyler Invitational.

Drake Herm and Caden Young led the team with second-place finishes at 138 and 170 pounds, respectively.

Herm won by pin in his first match before two decision wins. He was defeated by major decision in the first-place match.

Young pinned his first opponent and then won by major decision. He was topped 5-3 in the title match.

Carsen Herm (152) placed third for Shawano after going 3-1 on the day. All of his wins were by pin. Dane Hodkiewicz (106) placed fifth for the Hawks with a 4-1 record.

Three Shawano girls placed in the top six in Wausau.

Hatty Fritz (235) took third with a 3-1 record, with all three wins by pin.

Onna Hermann (120) had three pins on her way to a 3-2 record and fourth-place finish. Piper Novitski (138) went 2-2 to take sixth.

Oconto Falls

Garrett Ganter (106) and Cole Bozile (132) each placed first in their respective weight classes to help the Oconto Falls boys team earn 77 points for its 11th-place finish.

Ganter opened his day with two major decision wins before a pin in 3 minutes, 21 seconds in the first-place match.

Cole Bozile pinned his first three opponents before claiming a 9-0 major decision win in the first-place match.

Hunter Bozile (126) was the third and final Panther to place at the invitational, coming in fifth. He won three decisions and by pin after dropping his opening match.

Taylor Whiting (107) was one of three girls competing in Wausau, and finished first in her weight class.

Whiting won three matches by pin and the other by technical fall.

Bonduel

All three Bonduel girls that competed placed in the top five.

Maddy Sokolski (138) won her weight class with a 4-0 mark. Three wins came by pin, with the other by decision.

Kaitlyn Kroening (100) went 3-1 to take fifth. Two wins came by pin, while the other was by major decision.

Hailey Berg (120) posted a 2-2 mark to claim sixth place. Her wins came by pin and decision.

Pulaski

Twelve Pulaski girls were in action in Wausau, with fifth placing.

Leah Kapla (126) and Marna Andre (235) each placed second for the Red Raiders.

Kapla won two matches by pin and another by decision before being pinned in the first-place match. Andre went 2-1, with all three matches ending in pin.

Noelle Manning (165) and Ellie Neosh (185) each placed sixth. Manning’s two wins were by decision, while Neosh had a pin.

Ellie Nygren (126) placed eighth, also pinning an opponent on the day.

Suring/Gillett

Two of the three Suring/Gillett girls competing in Wausau placed.

Shylah Hisey (165) came in fourth with a 1-2 mark. Her win was by pin.

Parker Zahn (145) took sixth with a 2-2 record, with both wins by pin.
