Nick Curran, business manager and human resources director for the Shawano School District, has submitted his resignation, which the Shawano School Board accepted Jan. 4.

According to Superintendent Randi Anderson, Curran has accepted a position with CESA 8 to be that agency’s business manager. His last day with the district will be Feb. 5.

“It’s an exciting opportunity, and their business manager moved on. So they recruited, and they got Nick,” Anderson said. “They are very fortunate, but it’s sad to see him go, for sure. But it’s an opportunity for him to work with multiple districts and consulting.”

Curran was hired as the district’s business manager to replace Louise Fischer, who retired in November 2019. He took on the human resources department duties as part of a cost-saving measure by the district.

Prior to coming to Shawano, Curran was the business manager for the Gresham School District.

The Shawano School District is currently advertising for his position. If it is not filled by the time Curran departs, Anderson would manage the human resources day-to-day operations. The business manager duties would then be contracted out to CESA 5, which Anderson said has the resources to handle those needs.

The board went into closed session and then voted 6-1 to accept Curran’s resignation. Board member Mart Grams cast the lone vote against the resignation, and board members Chris Gull and Michael Sleeper were not present for the vote.
