Roger L. Flaig

Roger Louis Flaig, 81, Green Bay, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. He was born on March 1, 1940, in the Town of Belle Plaine to Edward and Elizabeth (Kleman) Flaig. His mother passed at an early age and Edward remarried Emily Weller.

After graduating from Shawano High School, Roger joined the U.S. Army Reserves, serving from November 1959 to 1965, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. On Oct. 7, 1961, he married Donna Weller at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galloway. In 1959, he started working at F. Hurlbut Co. for 48 years, retiring as a payloader from Great Lakes Calcium.

Roger enjoyed deer hunting, going to the cottage and taking care of the land. He was a hard worker, having planted thousands of trees to keep the land viable. He also enjoyed teaching local children how to take care of the forest.

He loved John Deere tractors. Roger was a huge Packers fan and he relished the stadium atmosphere as he ushered for their games.

Roger was dedicated to his family. His only goal was to make sure they were cared for. He loved his grandchildren and deeply cherished the time he spent with them.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Robert (Kelly) Flaig, Michael (Debbie) Flaig, Daniel (Katie) Flaig and Karen (Joseph) Foss; grandchildren, Cierrah (Alex) Prunty, Somer (Thomas) Kern, Shane Flaig, Camden Flaig, Michael Flaig, Anthony (Christine) Flaig, Jacob Flaig, Matthew Flaig, Adam Flaig, Leah Foss, Logan Foss, Tony (Amanda) Meissner, Jamie Haffeman (Rich Ellman) Jennifer Haffeman (Terry Lee) and Elizabeth (Marshall) Cohen; great-grandchildren, Thea, Lauren, Michael, Gabrielle, Cora, Emma, Lily, Ruby, Bryce, Kenlee, Jakk, Evelyn, Kennedy, Brennan, Nasya, Moshe and Hadassah; in-laws, Frank Ferguson, Ruth Flaig and Pilar Flaig; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Gordon (Bette) Flaig, Evelyn Oman, Jim (Delores) Flaig, Alvin Flaig, Marcella (Frank) Cheyka, and Howard Flaig.

Visitation will be at Fort Howard Memorial Park Chapel, 1350 North Military Ave., from 9-a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, and will be followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.
