Pulaski tops Shawano in girls tennis

Pulaski topped Shawano 5-2 in a weather-shortened Shawano Quad tennis matchup Aug. 17. Manitowoc Lincoln and Oshkosh North also participated.

Shawano’s two wins came at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. At the No. 2 slot, Ireland Setterman defeated Isabella Skalecki 6-3, 6-4, and at No. 3, Rachael Carroll defeated Alya Groteluschen 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, Pulaski’s Ruth Krause topped Adison Moesch 6-2, 6-2, and at No. 4 singles, Pulaski’s Addison Heezen defeated Shawano’s Hadley Rettke 6-2 , 7-6 (1).

Pulaski won all the doubles matches.

Sarah Johnson and Josie Steeno defeated Natalee Jung and Samantha Martzke 6-1, 6-3. Linde Lemerond and Aubrie Schluessler defeated Ashley Hanssen and Rylee Trochil 6-0, 6-1. Alyssa Eggert and Hailie Jansen shut out Claire Weiland and Olivia Dobratz 6-0, 6-0.

Shawano lost 6-1 to Manitowoc Lincoln, with the No. 2 doubles team of Carroll and Rettke winning 2-0, 2-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Martzke and Jung fell 6-2, 6-0, and Maddigan Bakeberg and Katie Weiland lost 7-6 (2), 6-7 (4), 10-6.

In singles action, Moesch was shut out 6-0, 6-0, Setterman lost 6-3, 6-1, Laney Rich lost 6-2, 6-1, and Brynlie Boyles lost 6-3 , 7-6 (1).

Shawano vs. Oshkosh North was canceled.

Battle on the Fox

Shawano’s girls tennis team had split results in the Battle on the Fox on Aug. 15-16.

Hosted by Bay Port High School, the two-day event saw Carroll lead the Hawks at 2-1 in singles play.

On Aug. 16, Wausau West defeated Shawano 6-1. Carroll had the only Shawano win, going 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-4 at No. 3 singles. Coming on short in singles play were Moesch, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Setterman, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, and Claire Weiland, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

In doubles play, Jung and Martzke lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Trochil and Hanssen lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, and Katie Weiland and Bakeberg lost 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4.

Shawano defeated Menominee Indian 5-2, including all four singles matches.

In singles play, Moesch defeated Makenzie Doyle 6-3, 6-2, Setterman topped Anna Axtel 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2, Boyles defeated Delaney Wagner 1-6, 6-2, 10-3 at No. 3, and Bakeberg beat Bianca Kurtz 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Menominee Indian won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. At the top spot, Kamryn Olsen and Madelyne Barker beat Martzke and Jung 4-6, 6-1, 10-8, while Isabelle Bentley and Courtney Buscher defeated Claire Weiland and Dobratz 6-3, 6-0.

At No. 3, Shawano’s Ava Hoffman and Katie Weiland beat Ava Chouinard, and Ella Barker 4-6, 7-5, 10-4.

On Aug. 15, Shawano lost 6-1 to Onalaska Luther and 7-0 to Regis.

The only win was the No. 1 doubles team of Moesch and Setterman over Onalaska Luther 6-1, 6-4.

Losing in singles matches were Carroll at No. 1, Rettke at No. 2, Martzke at No. 3 and Trochil at No. 4.

Jung and Bakerberg fell at No. 2 doubles, and Hanssen and Boyles lost at No. 3.

Losing in singles play against Regis were Moesch, Setterman, Boyles and Bakerberg.

Doubles losses were recorded by Jung and Martzke, Carroll and Rettke, and Hanssen and Trochil (6-2, 5-7, 10-5).

Host Bay Port topped Shawano 6-1, with Carroll getting the only win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

Losing in singles play were Moesch, Setterman and Rettke.

Doubles losses were recorded by Jung and Martzke, Trochil and Hanssen, and Bakerberg and Boyles.
