“One – two – three – Monkey!”

Despite assistant children’s director Brian Wilson’s admonition that sometimes he says funny things and they should jump after “One – two – three – go,” some of the children still started over the line at the “monkey” April 3 at the Hillside Assembly Eggstravaganza in Gillett.

After everyone laughed, Wilson gave the correct instruction and the hunt was on. A few minutes later the kids had bags full of plastic eggs to exchange for candy back inside the church.

About 150 parents and their kids registered for the event, which began with games inside the church’s fellowship hall like Easter basket-ball, cross bowling, a Frisbee toss, and tic-tac-toe with tennis balls and Velcro.

After an holiday-themed presentation the Easter Bunny led the group outside, where first- through sixth-graders had a field full of eggs to choose from and younger children had a separate, less frenetic chase.

The event was the return of a Gillett area tradition after last year's hunt was canceled because of COVID concerns.
