Pedestrian killed in semi crash on Highway 29

A pedestrian was killed March 13 on state Highway 29 when he was struck by a semi truck.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a crash on Highway 29 near the intersection of River Road, in the Town of Hartland. Initial reports indicated a semi was traveling eastbound on the highway and had struck a pedestrian.

Upon deputies arriving on scene, the pedestrian was pronounced dead. Investigation of the crash indicated the pedestrian, a 63-year-old man from Brown County, was walking along the eastbound lanes of the highway. The semi driver then reported the man lunged out in front of his semi as he was driving. This resulted in the semi striking the man in the lane of travel. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 29 were shut down for approximately five hours for the investigation of this incident.

At this time, alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor, according to the sheriff’s department. This incident remains under investigation, and the department claims no further information or names will be released pending family notification.
