Paul Daniel joining Hawks Hall of Fame

Paul Daniel attended Shawano High School from 1978-1982. He was a 12-sport athlete in his high school career.

Daniel was a four-year letter winner in cross-country. In his sophomore season, his team won five invitationals during the regular season, finished third in the conference meet, and finished second at the Wausau Sectional.

In 1980, he was part of the first cross-country team from Shawano to ever qualify for the state meet. The team finished 16th at state.

In his senior season in 1981, the cross-country team won the Bay Conference Championship for the first time in school history. The team earned a return trip to the state meet, again finishing 16th.

Daniel also played basketball all four years of high school, earning letters in his junior and senior seasons. Additionally, he received All-Bay Conference honorable mention honors during both seasons.

In his senior season, the team finished their season with a record of 21-3. They won the Bay Conference title with a 16-2 conference record. The team won its Division 1 regional and sectional and advanced to the state tournament. They defeated Sheboygan South in the quarterfinal game. Unfortunately, the team lost in the semifinal round to Stevens Point by one point to end their season.

The three games the team lost that season were each one-point losses.

Daniel played tennis in the spring season, playing both singles and doubles all four years. In doubles play, he was paired with his twin brother, Thad. Their aggressive serves and returns benefited them with a .750 winning percentage during their freshman through junior seasons.

They advanced to the sectional finals in both their sophomore and junior seasons.

After high school, Daniel completed two years of college in the University of Wisconsin system before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1984. He served 22 years active duty as a command-and-control specialist, retiring in 2006. For the past 16 years, he has served as a U.S. Air Force civilian as a program manager developing military training exercises within the Homeland Defense mission.

While serving during these years he earned a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies (Business emphasis) from Liberty University in 2013 and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary in 2015.

Daniel is married to Carol, his wife of 35 years, and they have three boys, Luke, Micah and Jacob. Daniel and Carol currently reside in Panama City, Florida.
