Packers roster moves (week 2)

UPDATED: Sept. 19, 3:50 p.m.

The Green Bay Packers signed T Ryan Pope and DL Billy Winn to the practice squad and released DL Daylon Mack from the practice squad.

The transactions were announced Wednesday by Brian Gutekunst, the Packers general manager.

Pope (6-foot-7, 320 pounds), a first-year player out of San Diego State, was originally signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent in May of 2019. He spent the 2019 training camp with the Lions and parts of the 2019 regular season on the practice squads of the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars. Pope stayed with the Jaguars through this year’s training camp and was released on Sept. 5.

In college, he was named second-team All-Mountain West as a senior in 2018 by the league’s coaches and media after starting 13 games. Pope will wear No. 78 for the Packers.

Winn (6-4, 305) an eighth-year player, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round (No. 205 overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Boise State. After spending the first three seasons of his career with the Browns, he played for the Indianapolis Colts in 2015 and for the Denver Broncos in 2016-17 and 2019, but injuries sidelined Winn for the 2017-19 seasons.

For his career, Winn has played in 68 games with 23 starts, recording 111 tackles (68 solo), three sacks, two interceptions, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He will wear No. 93 for the Packers.
