Packers roster moves (divisional round)

Updated: Jan. 16, 12:35 p.m

The Green Bay Packers signed T Jared Veldheer off of the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad and placed G Simon Stepaniak on injured reserve.

General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transactions Jan. 12.

Veldheer, a 6-foot-8, 312-pound 10th-year player out of Hillsdale College, joins the Packers for the second time after playing in two regular-season contests and two postseason games last season with a start at right tackle in the 2019 NFC divisional playoff win over Seattle.

He was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders in the third round (No. 69 overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. Veldheer has played in 121 regular-season games with 114 starts for the Raiders (2010-13), Arizona Cardinals (2014-17), Denver Broncos (2018), Packers (2019) and Indianapolis Colts (2020). He also played in six postseason contests with five starts, including starting last week at left tackle for the Colts in the wild card playoff at Buffalo.

During the regular season, Veldheer has started 92 games at left tackle, 21 games at right tackle and a game at center.

He will wear No. 70 for the Packers.

Packers place Veldheer on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Packers placed Veldheer on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The transaction was announced Wednesday by Gutekunst.

Per agreed-upon NFL-NFLPA policy, clubs are not permitted to comment on a player's medical status other than referring to roster status. Being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list is for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been in close contact with an infected person or persons.

Green Bay announces gameday moves

The Packers elevated DL Brian Price and CB KeiVarae Russell from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday and signed TE Bronson Kaufusi to a reserve/future contract.

The transactions were announced Friday by Gutekunst.

Kaufusi, a 6-foot-6, 270-pound third-year player, was originally selected in the third round (No. 70 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens as a defensive lineman.

After his rookie season was lost due to an injury suffered in training camp, he played in three games with one start for the Ravens in 2017. From 2018-20, Kaufusi spent time on the practice squad and active roster for the New York Jets, appearing in six games with one start over three seasons. Overall in his career, he has registered eight tackles (two solo), a half a sack and a pass defensed.
