Oconto County Health Department discounts radon tests

The Oconto County Health Department is lowering the price of radon tests to encourage Oconto County residents to test for radon gas in their homes. The tests will be for sale at the discounted price of $5 per test through the entire month of January, which is national Radon Action Month.

Radon is a radioactive gas from the ground that can enter a home through tiny cracks in the foundation. Radon causes an estimated 21,000 lung cancer deaths nationwide each year, and approximately 962 of these deaths are in Wisconsin. Fortunately, this cause of lung cancer is largely preventable. The first step is to test. For more information, visit www.ocph.info.

Tests may be purchased at the Oconto County Health and Human Services office, 501 Park Ave., Oconto. Office hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. For more information, call 920-834-7000.
