Oconto Cemetery Walk tickets to go on sale

Tickets for the 12th Annual Oconto County Historical Society sponsored cemetery walk “If Tombstones Could Talk” will go on sale Aug. 8 at the Beyer Home and Carriage Museum, 915 Park Ave.

The Cemetery Walk is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the evenings of September 12, 13 and 14, with the first two performances to be held outside at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery, 3024 N. River Road, Oconto. The Sept. 14 performance is to be presented indoors at the John B. LeMay Auditorium at the Oconto High School, 1717 Superior Ave., Oconto.

The presentation features portrayals of six historic personages in Oconto County’s history. Some of the individuals portrayed are well known, other not so much, and those attending will learn about various facets of their lives.

Tour-goers will be led in groups through the cemetery by lantern-carrying guides for the outdoor walk. Those attending the outdoor performances are urged to wear comfortable shoes, as the tour requires an amount of walking, sometimes on uneven ground. They may also wish to bring a flashlight and insect repellent. The indoor performance is designed for people who may find it difficult to walk in the cemetery, but the indoor performance is open to everyone.

Tickets are $10 per person and will be sold at the Beyer Home and Carriage Museum through Sept. 2. If any tickets remain unsold after Sept. 2, they will be available for sale at Roberts Hometown Hardware, 919 Main St., Oconto. Any remaining unsold tickets also will be available for sale just prior to each evening’s performance.

Complimentary refreshments will be served to tour-goers at the cemetery on the evenings of Sept. 12 and 13, and in the cafeteria of the Oconto High School following the performance on Sept.14. In case of inclement weather, an outdooor performance will be moved indoors to the Oconto High School auditorium.
