Norman Darling

Norman “Si” Silas Darling, 89, of Gresham, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at his home. Norman was born on Nov. 27, 1929, in Pulcifer, to the late Silas and Ester (Hansen) Darling.

He graduated from Shawano High School in 1948. After high school, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Norman was united in marriage to Barbara Zoglman on June 14, 1969, in the town of Red Springs. He worked for the Little Rapids Paper Mill for nearly 35 years until his retirement.

Norman served on the Gresham Village Board, was active in civic groups, member of the Gresham Lions, Gresham Legion, and the Shawano VFW. He participated in the Honor Flight. Norman was proud of the fact he was able to travel to all 50 states. He enjoyed camping, the Packers and visiting and socializing with his family and friends. Most people could sum him up in three phrases: easy-going, fun-loving and devoted.

Norman is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Dan (Karen) Darling, of Franklin, New Hampshire, Faye (Steven) Dodge, of Keshena, and Sandra (Michael) Panchot, of Richfield, Minnesota; former spouse, Joanne Darling; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; stepmother, Lillian Darling, of Shawano; and one brother, Joel Darling, of Shawano. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held for Norman at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, at St. Francis of Solanus in Gresham with the Rev. Nonito Barra officiating. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery. Burial will be in the St. Francis of Solanus Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Honor Flight may be made in Norman’s name.
