SHAWANO — A new Shawano County clerk of courts has been selected to replace Susan Krueger, who retired from the job on Feb. 1.

Ethan Schmidt, currently a team leader with Shawano County Sheriff’s Department’s dispatch center and a volunteer firefighter, “is in the process of being appointed,” according to county Corporation Counsel Tony Kordus.

The clerk of courts is an elected position. Schmidt would fill out the remainder of Krueger’s four-year term in office, which expires in January 2022.

Schmidt was selected by the county’s circuit court judges, William Kussel Jr. and James Habeck.

Kordus, who is running in April for the judge’s seat being vacated by Habeck’s pending retirement, provided input during the selection process but didn’t make the final decision.

Kordus said Schmidt could be sworn into office as soon as Thursday , but that hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Schmidt was once named Employee of the Month by the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department for helping deliver a baby over the phone in November 2016.

He was also previosuly named Fireman of the Year for the western portion of Shawano County, according to Kordus.
