Nansi Lee Casper

Nansi Lee Casper (Miller), age 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer.

She was born on May 3, 1954, in Tucson, Arizona, to Herbert and Carole Miller. The oldest of three children, she was an independent woman who paved her own way in the world. As part of a military family, she traveled often, eventually finding herself on a riverfront property in Oconto with a perfect yard for gardening and for raising her children.

Nansi thoroughly enjoyed her role as the matriarch of her family, and her work ethic was unparalleled. She was a kind-hearted woman and a supportive, nurturing mother and grandmother. Nansi attended college while working and being a mom. Later, she began her own freelance court reporting business, which she successfully continued until her final days.

Well-loved and respected by numerous circles of friends, Nansi cherished each of her relationships. She loved the earth and was a master gardener. She was passionate about wildlife rehabilitation and valued the work of the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary. Her other hobbies included botany, wild-ricing, aromatherapy, music, reading, and environmental and political activism. Nansi was a trailblazer for her community wherever she went. She had a hand in starting the first co-op, day care and PTO in Oconto, as well as numerous other organizations, including the Blue Rose Inc. nonprofit and Whispering Pines Retreat.

Nansi is preceded in death by her father, Herbert Miller.

She is survived by her mother, Carole Miller; her children, Nathan Casper (Karolin), Nikki Lynch (Evan), David Casper (Kristin), Breanna Taft (Granger) and Jason Heid (Martha); grandchildren, Hailey, Lydia, Ethan, Cadence, Madison, Natalie, Dayton, Holly, Marianna, Victor, Mateo, Lily and Matilda; brothers, Jeff Miller (Kim) and Doug Miller (Shannon); and numerous nieces and nephews.

No public service will be held, but please honor Nansi and her memory by making a donation to the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary or charity of your choice.

Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home of Oconto is honored to assist the family.
