Greetings, Morgan! The spring election will be here before you know it. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, April 6. Town board officials will be on the ballot. After the town caucus that occurred Jan. 9, it was determined that all five of Morgan’s current town board members are running unopposed for another two-year term: Fran Wranosky as town chair, Leonard Wahl as town supervisor, Ron Korzeniewski as town supervisor, Julie Belongia as town clerk and Cindy Smith as town treasurer. Wranosky, Wahl, Korzeniewski and Smith have all served in their respective offices for numerous terms. Belongia is running for her second full term as town clerk.

Also on the April 6 ballot is the state superintendent of public instruction. In local races, the Oconto Falls, Gillett and Pulaski school districts all have elections for school board members, and the Oconto Falls school district will have a referendum on the ballot. Thank you in advance to all of Morgan’s poll workers for keeping our elections running smoothly.

The annual town meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 26, at 7 p.m. at the town hall. Annual town meetings are built into the history of our local government structure. The University of Wisconsin-Extension Local Government Center has all kinds of interesting information regarding the history, authority and logistics of annual town meetings. Check out the section titled “Resources for Local Officials” at https://localgovernment.extension.wisc.edu/.

The Green Valley-Morgan Fire Department has announced that it is planning to hold its annual fundraiser picnic and car show this year on Saturday, Aug. 14. This event was not held in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns. Though some of the usual activities will be scaled back at this year’s picnic, there will still be refreshments, a car show, a raffle and entertainment by the music group Cat 5. Stay tuned for more details as they become available in the coming months.

Now that we have heavy snow throughout the area, snowmobile trails have opened, including those trails in Morgan. Both motorists and snowmobilers should exercise extra caution when they encounter each other. Let’s try to have a safe winter out there on the roads and trails.
