A Shawano man was charged Dec. 2 with multiple drug-related charges in relation to an incident in the Town of Menominee on Dec. 1.

James L. Lamczyk, 38, was charged with one count of possession of amphetamine/methamphetamine/etc., with intent (greater than 10-50 grams), one count of possession of fentanyl, with intent (greater than 10-50 grams), one count of possession of THC (second or subsequent offense) and three misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

If convicted, Lamczyk faces fines of up to $100,000 and 25 years in prison for each count of possession of amphetamine/methamphetamine/etc., with intent (greater than 10-50 grams) and possession of fentanyl, with intent (greater than 10-50 grams). He also faces up to $10,000 in fines and 3½ years in prison for possession of THC (second or subsequent offense) and $500 in fines and 30 days in prison for each misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the criminal complaint, a Menominee County Sheriff Department’s sergeant was on duty when they were alerted that James Lamczyk was at the Menominee Casino and Resort and it was believed that Lamczyk had a felony warrant. After communicating with the Menominee Dispatch Center, it was allegedly indicated that Lamczyk had two felony warrants and was on active probation/parole.

The Menominee County Sheriff’s Department sergeant was allegedly alerted that Lamczyk was getting into a vehicle in the parking lot. From there, another responding deputy allegedly pulled up to Lamczyk’s vehicle, explained that he had a warrant out and detained him. While searching Lamczyk, officers allegedly found what they believed to be methamphetamine in Lamczyk’s wallet.

A vehicle search followed, where officers allegedly found a piece of foil with burnt residue, a glass smoking device — that is allegedly used for methamphetamine, two metal containers that allegedly contained a large amount of gray substance — which officers believed to be fentanyl and a backpack containing a green, leafy substance, two glass smoking pipes, a used syringe, a green hallow pen and a digital scale.

Using a testing kit, officers allegedly determined that 0.9 grams of a crystal substance, 10.52 grams of a separate crystal substance, a glass smoking device, and the used syringe all tested positive for methamphetamine, while the hollow green pen, burnt tin foil piece and digital scale all tested negative. The 9.9 grams of a leafy, green substance, a yellow, glass smoking device and a black grinder all tested positive for marijuana. The two metal containers — one containing 1.69 grams of a gray substance and one containing 9.5 grams of a gray substance — tested positive for fentanyl.

According to court records, Lamczyk had a bench warrant issued from Outagamie County on Oct. 27. The charges from that case includes one count of theft of movable property, one count of burglary and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property.

During Lamczyk’s Dec. 2 initial appearance, Shawano-Menominee Circuit Court Judge William Kussel Jr. set a cash bond of $10,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Dec. 9.
