The Menominee Indian High School baseball team has a few experienced players to turn to this spring, but will also need some newcomers to step up in order to be competitive.

“After a long period of no baseball I would hope we can come together as a team and win a few games in the process,” said Menominee Indian coach Karl Peters.

Senior Jamison Besaw and juniors Wendell Waukau Jr. and Bryce Dixon are all experienced varsity players Peters can turn to this spring. All three players can play anywhere on the diamond.

Waukau is the only all-conference Eagle back from 2019. He made the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division honorable mention team as a freshman.

To fill out the team, Peters is going to need several other players to step up. Peters hopes junior Robert Zhuckkahosee is one of the players.

“I’ve talked to a lot of the young varsity players and worked a lot with them,” said Waukau. “Most of what we’re doing is just getting back into the basics, simple fundamental drills like off the hitting tee.

“Another big aspect is confidence. I told most of the young guys that there will be failure but how you respond and how well you take it in will predict how the next at-bat or the next pitch will go. I do have a lot of confidence in the team that we have this year, and what we can do.”
