Mary L. Smith

Mary L. Smith, 86, Gillett, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, at her home.

Originally from West Virginia, Mary spent most of her life in Northwest Indiana working in a hospital setting, then later in a diner that she owned. In 2009, Mary moved to Gillett with her husband, Howard, where they have enjoyed countless evenings sitting by the pond, enjoying nature and enjoying local diners. Mary was a very loving wife and mother who made every holiday memorable. Mary was active; she was a knitter, quilter, loved lighthouses, huge dirt track race fan, sold Avon for over 30 years and enjoying spending time with family and friends, whom she loved dearly.

Mary is survived by her husband, Howard; her daughter Linda Nix (Wendell); daughter-in-law Jackie; three stepsons, Gary (Lisa), Kevin (Stephanie), Jeffrey (Lily) and stepdaughter Crystal; grandchildren, Jerry Lee (Kris), Susan, Katrina (Steven); step-grandchildren, Marty (Stephanie), Donna, Polly Jane; great-grandchildren, Cheyene, Angel (Andrew), Jerry Lee, Matthew, Brittany, Anthony, Andrew, Annemarie, Olivia, Jackson, Raegan; great-great grandchildren, Michael, Maveric, Maeox and Marquon.

She was preceded in death by her father, William, and mother, Ethel; brother Bill; sisters; Georgia, Mae, Jean and Louise; son Jerry and great-granddaughter Heather, along with many other family members and friends. A visitation was held at Kuehl Funeral Home, Gillett, on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020. Kuehl is honored to serve the family at their time of need.
