Led by a strong day from Reed Luepke, the Bonduel High School boys golf team turned in a first-place finish at the Bonduel Invite on April 29 at Golden Sands Golf Course in Cecil.

Luepke fired an 18-hole round of 79 to finish as the invite’s medalist.

“I hit really well off the tee and didn’t find myself in much trouble, also my short game saved me a lot of strokes, especially on the back nine,” said Luepke.

Bonduel finished with a team score of 338, well ahead of second-place finishing Oconto, which had a score of 369. Lena placed third with a mark of 377, while Wittenberg-Birnamwood claimed fourth with a team score of 384.

Marion’s score of 433 was good enough for 10th, with Menominee Indian/Gresham a shot back at 434 to place 11th.

Along with Luepke’s top finish, Bonduel had two other golfers place in the top-10 finishers on the day. Jake Dreyer fired a round of 83, while Cooper Uelmen posted a round of 85.

Reece Stoltenow and Colin Margelofsky also turned in solid rounds for the Bears, with scores of 91 and 95, respectively.

All in all, it was another strong day for Bonduel, which has placed first as a team several times already this spring.

“We have six or seven golfers that could golf in the 80s on any given day that put in countless hours in the offseason,” said Luepke. “We are also a close team and I think that plays a huge role in our success.”

Braden McVane fired a round of 89 to lead Lena on the course and finish 10th as an individual. He credited his putting for helping him to the strong round.

Lena’s Mason Simonson was just a shot back of McVane at a 90. Mason Spice fired a round of 95.

K.C. Miller (103) and Evan Vander Zanden (110) were Lena’s other two golfers.

“I do think that our team in all did pretty good, but I think that this third place will kind of push us to do a little better next time and hopefully win our next match,” said McVane. “But overall it was a pretty solid day for Lena.”

Calvin Scheurer and Nolan Fraaza led Witt-Birn on the course, tallying rounds of 83 and 87, respectively.

“Personally, it was a pretty steady day. It seemed whenever I was in trouble, I was to escape pretty well,” said Scheurer, who tied for fifth as an individual.

Owen Schultz (104), Joey Seegmiller (110) and Dylan Resch (115) capped Witt-Birn’s team.

Sam Gueths led Marion on the course with a round of 100. Quinn Tolan and Isaiah Gueths weren’t far behind, carding rounds of 107 and 109, respectively.

Kasey Roethle (117) and Owen Speigel (141) capped the Mustangs’ five-golfer team.

Menominee Indian/Gresham had both Corbin Welch (90) and Saswaen Shawanokasic (99) turn in rounds under 100 on the day.

“It obviously always feels good to turn in a good scorecard,” said Welch. “I’ll take what I’ve learned from today’s mistakes and try to learn from it. I think it will also help my confidence every time I stand over the ball to hit a shot.”

Jack Haffner (120), Fynn Bennett (125) and Ayanna Smith (133) rounded out the co-op lineup.
