Long-term care facility hit with COVID case

SHAWANO — A long-term care facility is now among locations being investigated for COVID-19 infections, according to the latest update from the Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department.

Further details were not immediately available.

The update posted Friday also notes that the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Shawano County has risen to 31.

Shawano County cases have risen by 45% since this time last week.

According to the health department’s Facebook page, long-term care facilities include skilled nursing facilities (nursing homes) and assisted living facilities (community-based residential facilities and residential care apartment complexes).

A single case in such a facility necessitates a facility-wide public health investigation, according to the health department.

Statewide, 11,685 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported as of Friday and 445 deaths.
