Lobos Tournament: Rangers capture another tournament title

July 26

Navarino 5, Cecil 1

The Navarino Rangers won their second consecutive tournament by defeating the Cecil Mudhens 5-1 on July 26 to win the 31st annual Shawano Lobos Invitational Tournament at Bill Krenger Field at Martzke Park.

The weeklong tournament included a day of postponements due to rain and the shuffling of schedules after Neopit withdrew from the six-team event.

Cecil put constant pressure on the Rangers but could not get that needed hit with guys in scoring position. Navarino, on the other hand, scored in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings to lead 5-0.

Mason Dingeldein led off the game with a single as Brett Krull sacrificed him to second, setting up a Ryan Boettcher RBI single.

The score remained 1-0 until the third when Dingeldein singled and Krull doubled to center. Dingeldein later scored on an error.

In the fourth, Spencer Dauphinee reached on an error as Terry Boettcher doubled to left. Dingeldein hit a double of his own to push the lead to 4-0.

Navarino tacked on a run in the sixth on a single by Dawson Schmidt, scoring James Mutchie.

The Mudhens scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. Ken Casper doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Meanwhile, Grant Bouche walked and stole second. Tucker Bouche singled in Casper for Cecil’s lone run.

Bouche took the loss for the Mudhens. He pitched six innings giving up five runs (three earned) on 10 hits, striking out eight and walking two.

Mutchie earned the win for the Rangers. He pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits, striking out five and walking two.

Dingeldein was the tournament MVP going 7-for-10 with two doubles and 8 RBIs.

This concludes tournament play for the Rangers this season as they went 6-0 and were champions of the Bonduel and Shawano tournaments. Navarino outscored their opponents 40-14 in tournament play.

July 25

Navarino 1, Hofa Park 0

The Rangers utilized stellar defense behind a five-hit shutout by Joey Wagester to win Pool A of the Shawano Tournament.

Navarino took the lead in the second as Ryan Boettcher led off with a double and was later driven in on Ben Prodell’s sacrifice fly.

Boettcher went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored.

Joey Wagester was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and allowing five hits.

July 24

Cecil 7, Bonduel 4

Cecil defeated the Bonduel Broncos 7-4 to advance to the championship game in the tournament.

The Mudhens were quick to score in the top half of the first on a Garrett Engel single with two outs. Three successive walks later, the score was 1-0.

Bonduel followed suit by scoring one in the bottom half of the innings after two outs to tie it at 1-1.

It remained that way until the third when the Mudhens scored two. Engel and Connor Schroeder both reached on infield errors. Both advanced by stealing bases. Mason Zuleger doubled to right center to plate both runs.

The Broncos again answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to knot it back up at 3-3.

Cecil made the score 7-3 in the top of the sixth. Cole Anderson started things off with a single. Tucker Bouche, Brodie Hartmann and Engel followed suit to give them the lead.

Schroeder earned the win for the Mudhens. He surrendered six hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking two.

Luke Kostreva took the loss for the Broncos. He went three innings, surrendering four runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking none.

Jake Reinke led things off on the mound for Bonduel. He gave up three hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking three.

Anderson threw two innings of relief for Cecil.

Cecil accumulated nine hits in the game. Engel and Hartman each collected two hits.

Bonduel had eight total hits led by Easton Reinke and Kostreva with two each.

Shawano 7, Hofa Park 6

In the first game of the night, Shawano defeated Hofa Park 7-6 after trailing early in the game.

July 22

Navarino 6, Shawano 2

The Rangers scoring started in the second inning as Brett Krull led off with a double and later scored on a Mason Dingeldein single.

Shawano tied it with a run of their own in the bottom half.

Dingeldein then drove in Ryan Boettcher and Krull on a 2RBI single in the fourth. Navarino extended its lead in the fifth on walks to Dawson Schmidt and Krull, followed by a Bennett Schmidt single. Dingeldein’s double cleared the bases to make it 6-1.

Shawano tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth as the game was shortened due to rain. Ervin Stedjee picked up the win, throwing five innings, allowing four hits and striking out three.
