LETTER: Bad timing for Gillett school referendum

To the editor:

I heard about three weeks ago that the Gillett School District is going for another referendum. I guess these people have no idea that the inflation rate is around 8.5%. Gas is around $4 per gallon or more. Food in the store is up 14-30%, utilities are up, building materials are up a lot and wages are stagnant.

The Gillett School District is looking for a raise when the wages of the working class of this district are staying about the same.

There are many people who are on a fixed income and will probably not get a raise on their Social Security. If they do get a raise, the Medicare end of it will wipe out the raise.

Has the district gotten rid of any teachers that they don’t need? Not so much. Last I heard, we hardly had enough students to make a football team.

For you people who like this referendum, if you like it then you fund it. I can’t imagine a worse time to go for a referendum than now.

Also remember, they tried this earlier this year, and it failed. Let’s make it fail again.

Just heard on the news that the utility company is looking to raise our utilities. Thank you, Gillett School District.

Del Miller, Gillett
