LETTER: Article on Morgan did not tell whole story

To the editor:

The article “Morgan Town Board meeting reflects recall tensions” is from your point of view as the editor listening to what was heard, or your interpretation of your understanding. To only attend a few meetings and not be a resident of the town, honestly you have no clue as to what is actually happening.

“Wahl’s firm Morgan Excavating” is not correct. There is a business called Morgan Excavating. As for the price of $4,999, that was not to skirt the law. Nothing was being done wrong. The board could have accepted the bid with no comment from the public. Anyone can submit a bid. People know that once a year the town does ditch cutting. The town has been using the service of Morgan Excavating for 25 years; why change now?

As for your statement, “the proposed NextEra solar farm is the heart of the recall election,” the reasons listed on the recall petition were: misrepresentation of vision statement, conflict of interest, lack of transparency, and biased representation. NextEra did not contact the town about solar farming. NextEra only contacted land owners to see if there was an interest. As stated by state Rep. Jeffery Mursau, the Town of Morgan and Oconto County have no jurisdiction in the building of a solar farm in Morgan.

Continuing through the article, yes, Chris Topher (correct name Chris Huntley), a resident of the Town of Morgan, was trying to fix the division. People today don’t know how to be civil or even act as an adult. The language people use sometimes is improper and uncalled for. Stating that I said the f-word is totally wrong.

I know Jeff Folts, who is running for town supervisor, used that word with a gesture, but why are you not stating his name or his running position? The resident (Karen Nelson-Kispert) who was inquiring about the $4,999 bid or the resident (Jolene Barkhaus) who used Facebook, why aren’t their names mentioned? This article seems to be a one-sided story targeting town board members. Why can’t the media ever tell the truth? Media should state facts without putting a side in the story, and let the reader pick the side.

I agree there is tension between the residents and the board members. However, this has been going on for close to two years. In a nutshell, hearts have been broken. The question is how to fix a broken heart? How to build trust and respect between the residents and board members? I am willing to listen to ideas or suggestions.

Leonard Wahl, Town of Morgan
