Jerry E. Hasenberg Jr.

Jerry E. Hasenberg Jr., 47, of Suring, passed away unexpectedly, while doing the work that he loved, on Thursday, April 1, 2021. Jerry was born July 17, 1973, to Gerald Sr. and Patricia (Kulig) Hasenberg. He graduated from Suring High School with the Class of 1991 and went on to attend UW-Stevens Point, where he received a degree in Natural Resource Management. After college, Jerry began his career as an arborist working various jobs throughout the years, including TruGreen, Ranger Services and the City of Appleton; he currently worked for the City of De Pere. He further enjoyed this passion for trees and met and helped countless others by doing side jobs. On Aug. 22, 2020, Jerry married Vanessa Giese at Waubee Lake Lodge, and they started their lives as husband and wife in Hickory, where he surprised her and the boys with a beautiful outdoor light display to celebrate their first Christmas as a family. Jerry appreciated this opportunity to help with raising the boys and took pride in being a role model for them, which made his wife love him even more. He has left an unforgettable impact on their lives, and they are so thankful for all the laughs, snuggles, coaching, bike-fixing, math-tutoring, Mario Kart and Mexican Train playing, and especially riding the 4-wheeler with him in winter while Jerry sang his “Mr. Plow” song.

Jerry was a compassionate man and valued all his time with family and friends. He touched so many lives with his sense of humor and kind regard for others. He was a man you were lucky to know and proud to call a friend, a relative, a stepdad or an exceptional husband.

Jerry enjoyed sports throughout his life. He played hockey, baseball, softball, basketball, football and still holds the record for 300 meter hurdles in track. He enjoyed golfing, playing bags and most recently curling with his buddies from the Appleton Curling Club. He especially enjoyed pontoon boat rides on Shay Lake, the start of his spring training camp in the yard with the boys, and anything including math or keeping stats.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Vanessa; three stepsons, Garret, Carson and Creed; parents, Jerry and Pat; two brothers, David (Ivana) and Glen (Kayla); Granny Bernie Hasenberg; mother- and father-in-law, Ruth and Steve Giese; brother-in-law, Jeremy Giese. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, his godchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and cousin, Taylor Nicole Bosley.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hayes from noon until the funeral service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Bill Trosien and Pastor Nick Buchholz officiating. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to plant a tree in honor of Jerry’s life.

The family would like to give sincere thanks for the efforts given by his arborist family from the City of De Pere and De Pere Police and Fire Rescue.
