Hilbert man dead after crash on state Highway 29

A 45-year old Hilbert man is dead after he crashed his motorcycle into a pick up truck, driven by a 20-year old Missouri man on Aug. 23.

Shawano County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene at 12:19 p.m., which occurred at the intersection of state Highway 29 and County Road MMM in the Town of Richmond.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, the initial investigation indicated that as the pick up truck was crossing state Highway 29 on County Road MMM, a motorcyclist, who was traveling eastbound in the slow lane, struck the passenger side of the pickup truck, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown from the vehicle.

According to the press release, Shawano Ambulance responded to the scene, where they also requested ThedaStar to respond. Shawano Fire Department and Shawano County Highway Department also assisted. At the scene, life saving measures were attempted and shortly after the motorcyclist was airlifted, he passed away.

The press release states that the driver of the pick up truck was not injured and is cooperating with law enforcement. The release also says that there were no passengers on the motorcycle.

Sheriff’s department officials added that at this time, the investigation is still ongoing and no further information will be released.
