Highway 29 and County U project starts June 28

Gov. Tony Evers recently signed a $3,074,933 contract to improve the intersection of state Highway 29 and County Road U in the town of Herman.

Work is scheduled to begin June 28.

Relyco, Inc. is the prime contractor for the project. The Highway 29 westbound lanes to the east of the intersection will be reconstructed to improve site distance. The County Road U intersection will be reconstructed into a J-Turn to improve safety.

During construction, Highway 29 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction with a reduced speed limit of 55 mph. Median crossovers will be utilized, and traffic will run counter directional during the reconstruction of the Highway 29 westbound lanes. An alternate route will be posted for oversize vehicles via Interstate 41, state Highway 441, U.S. Highway 10, and U.S. Highway 45. County Road U will be closed in stages.

Construction is scheduled for completion by November. The schedule is dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction progress.
