Highway 22 work halted until spring

SHAWANO — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is postponing remaining work on the state Highway 22 project in Shawano until spring, due to record rainfall and cold weather throughout the 2019 construction season.

Remaining work includes asphalt paving, shoulder work and final pavement marking between Airport Road and County Road BE. Once favorable weather conditions return in spring, work is anticipated to take 2½ weeks to complete.

The department acknowledges the deteriorated condition of the road between Airport Road and County BE and will continue to monitor and maintain this segment throughout the winter. The department’s decision to postpone the project will ensure the quality and longevity of the asphalt overlay in this area while keeping overall project costs in mind.

Short-term lane closures on Highway 22 between Airport Road and County BE could occur next week for touch-up work before removing all traffic control for the season.
