Highway 22 resurfacing starts Sept. 6 south of Gillett

Work is scheduled to begin Sept. 6 to improve 3.5 miles of state Highway 22 from the south Oconto County line (near Zastrow Road) to Finnegan Lake Road in the town of Gillett. The project is expected to take about five weeks.

Gov. Tony Evers’ office announced a $1.9 million contract with Northeast Asphalt Inc. of Greenville to serve as the prime contractor.

This is a resurfacing-level improvement project. Construction includes milling 3.5 inches and paving 3.5 inches, widening paved shoulder to 5 feet, culvert pipe replacements, centerline and shoulder rumble strips.

The highway is expected to remain open to traffic throughout construction with lane closures and flagging operations during work. Access to side roads and adjacent properties will be maintained.

The improvements should reduce surface roughness and provide a smoother and safer ride for motorists while extending the life of the pavement structure and reducing future maintenance costs.
