BASEBALL

Shawano 13

Xavier 10

Shawano hung on late for a season-opening Bay Conference win over Xavier on April 27 in Shawano.

The hosts led 10-2 before Xavier scored eight runs across the final two innings. A three-run sixth inning helped create more cushion for Shawano, which finished with 13 hits and nine walks.

Andrew Popp starred on the mound and at the plate for Shawano. He collected three hits and drove in six runs. On the hill, he earned the win after allowing two runs across four innings.

Shawano's Zach Erdmann drove in three runs, while Zac Jurmu had three hits, two RBIs and four runs scored. Jake Polzin worked an inning on the mound before Aidan Berry got the final six outs.

Bonduel 11

Iola-Scandinavia 4

Bonduel used a six-run fourth inning to rally past Iola-Scandinavia in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division matchup April 27 in Bonduel. Iola-Scandinavia led 4-0 after two innings.

Garrett Engel led Bonduel at the plate, driving in five runs on three hits. Brett Margelofsky drove in a pair on two hits, while Jack Johnson also delivered a run-scoring hit. Carson Robaidek stole three bases and scored four runs in the contest.

Cole Anderson picked up the win after working the first 4 2/3 innings, striking out five batters along the way. Johnson got the final seven outs, also recording five strikeouts.

Gresham 12

Marion 3

Gresham eased to a CWC-North victory over Marion on April 27 in Marion.

Lukas Pecore earned the win on the mound for Gresham, striking out 12 batters across 5 2/3 innings. Of the three runs he allowed, only one was earned. At the plate, Pecore had four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Belasaire Vele scored twice and drove in a run for Gresham. Austin Sperberg worked the final 1 1/3 innings for the Wildcats.

Jaden Stuhr led Marion with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Koy Brei drove in two runs, while Alex Zimmerman had the team's other RBI. Carter Goke pitched the first four innings and struck out four batters before Alex Zimmerman and Jay Brei spent time on the mound.

NL/WVL 3

Tigerton 2

Tigerton fell just short in a CWC-North battle with the Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran co-op April 27 in Tigerton.

Asher Michaelis and Loghan Wanta drove in Tigerton's runs. Michaelis led the team with a pair of hits, while Mitchell Zimdars reached base four times, including three walks.

Isaac Schoen was dealt the loss after pitching the first five innings and striking out five. Kaeden Miller struck out four batters across two scoreless innings.

Manawa 17

Bowler 7 (6 inn.)

Bowler dropped a CWC-North contest to Manawa on April 27 in Manawa. The Panthers surrendered six runs in the third inning before eight more runs in the fourth.

Ashwuut Mohawk had two hits and two RBIs to lead Bowler at the plate. Adin Brei, Brock Strassburg, Beau Brunner, Wylee Dodge and Beau Hartwig also drove in a run each.

The Panthers used three pitchers in the contest, with Logan Thiex working the first 3 1/3 innings. Mohawk then got the next four outs before Brunner took the mound.

Manawa finished the contest with 19 hits.

Shiocton 12

Menominee Indian 6

Menominee Indian was doubled up by Shiocton in a CWC-East clash April 27 in Shiocton.

Lloyd Reevis had a pair of hits for Menominee Indian, while Wendell Waukau Jr. doubled.

SOFTBALL

Tigerton 11

NL/WVL 7

Tigerton outslugged the Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran co-op in a CWC-North clash April 27 in Tigerton. The Tigers used a three-run fourth inning and two-run fifth to pull away.

Bethany Jobe doubled three times and drove in two runs for Tigerton, while Skyler Hauser added two doubles and four RBIs. Adrienne Brady added two hits and a RBI, while Savannah Swartz had a double and two RBIs. Abby Swartz and Lizzie Stueck each drove in a run.

Brady also earned the win in the circle, striking out eight batters in a complete game effort.

West De Pere 13

Shawano 2

Shawano couldn't slow West De Pere's bats in a Bay Conference matchup April 27 in Shawano. West De Pere had 13 hits and also took advantage of four Shawano errors.

Taylor Johnson took the loss in the circle after allowing two earned runs across three innings. Braylyn Babino came on in relief in the fourth inning for the Hawks.

No Hawk was able to register more than a hit. The team finished with three hits and four walks.

Menominee Indian dropped a CWC-East matchup against Shiocton April 27 in Shiocton.

Gabriella Wayka, Aniya Peters and Simone Perez all had a pair of hits for Menominee Indian.

BOYS GOLF

Shawano takes 3rd in opening Bay competition

Shawano earned a team score of 176 to place third in the first Bay Conference competition of the spring April 27 at Shamrock Heights Golf Course in New London. West De Pere (164) and Xavier (165) took first and second, respectively.

Kaden Marcell and Andrew Puissant led the Hawks on the course, recording nine-hole rounds of 41 and 42, respectively.

Owen Moesch (46), Ayden Hale (47) and Lucas te Plate (49) filled out Shawano's lineup.
