Greetings, Morgan! I hope you and your family are doing well this autumn.

As you may know, October is Fire Prevention Month. In past years, the Green Valley-Morgan Fire Department has visited Fairview Elementary School to provide students with fire safety information. Due to local schools not currently meeting in person, the fire department was unable to do the school visit this year. However, fire safety is just as important as ever.

This year, the fire department has teamed up with the National Fire Protection Association in educating the public on the 2020 Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!”

There are several important things to remember about kitchen fire safety, but one of the biggest is to not leave your cooking unattended. Whenever you are frying, broiling or grilling, be certain to turn off the burner if you must leave the kitchen, even if just for a short time. If you are simmering, boiling, baking or roasting food, use a timer as a reminder to check on your food periodically.

Other common-sense reminders are to keep an oven mitt within easy reach, keep children away from the stove and to remain aware and alert while cooking. If you would like some free fire safety educational materials for your family, please contact any fire department member.

The fire department is excited to announce that a new pumper/tender truck has been ordered from Pierce Manufacturing Inc. This truck, expected to arrive in March 2021, has been in the works for about a year. It will be housed at the Morgan firehouse, and the truck currently in Morgan will be moved to the Pulcifer firehouse. Thank you to all those who made donations directly to the fire department this year. As a result of the fundraising efforts, they were able to purchase two self-contained breathing apparatus units.

Please remember to vote in person Tuesday, Nov. 3, or to make other arrangements with the town clerk. The polls at the town hall are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The town website, www.townofmorgan.org, also contains some very helpful voter information.
