GIRLS WRESTLING: Shawano wins fourth straight tourney
Wrestling at the Rhinelander Hodag Scramble on Dec. 21 game Shawano its fourth straight tournament victory, outscoring their opponents 106-86.
“These girls are really starting to mold together, and they are learning more and more each week,” coach Mike Homan said. “It is very exciting to watch them grow so much.”
Onna Hermann took first place.
“She has been wrestling some tough competition, and today was no different,” Homan said. “She had a tough semifinals and finals match and came out on top. She has started to open up her technique more and more, and it shows when she is wrestling good competition.”
At 126 pounds, Caitlyn Moede took first place, and all five matches were falls.
“Caitlyn is one of the wrestlers that always looks to improve even when she wins,” Homan said. “She did some really good things and is continuing to learn more takedowns in the neutral position. When she wrestles like she did today, she is very tough to beat.”
Jenna Moede took second. She wrestled well during the day but came up short in her finals match.
At 138 pounds, Ali Lemerond took third. Vivian Waldburger and Courtney Schenk each finished third as well.
Breleigh Thornock placed in fourth, and Maddie Moesch took fifth.
Lauren Harkey and Adalyn Barkley each finished in sixth place.
