ONEIDA — Shawano Community High School girls golfer Taylor Johnson carded an 18-hole round of 98 at the Division 1 Notre Dame Sectional at Thornberry Creek on Tuesday.

The score tied Johnson for 27th as an individual, but didn’t qualify her for state. The junior fired a 47 on the front nine and 51 on the back nine.

"I had some good shots today, but I couldn’t seem to put it all together for the whole round," said Johnson on her day on the course. "I struggled with my short game today, so that’s definitely an area to work on for next year."

Johnson was competing at sectionals for the third time in her high school career. She qualified with her team as a freshman and as an individual as a sophomore.

She enjoyed the experience Tuesday, and is hoping to use the lessons learned to take the next step next fall.

"It’s a very good experience to be able to golf with some of the best golfers in the area because it shows me where I need to get to for the next year," said Johnson. "Although it is frustrating to end my season on a bad note, it is very encouraging for me so I know exactly what it is I need to improve.

"This year, I had a better finish than last year which shows I have taken a stride in the right direction, which is good news, so I’m happy with how I finished the season, but I won’t be satisfied with this finish next year."

Prior to advancing to sectionals, Johnson enjoyed a strong season in the Bay Conference, making the first team.
